Medical Staff, St. Christopher's Inn |
Primary Care Services are provided in our Article 28 Clinic, which is licensed by the NYS Department of Health. The Medical Department of St. Christopher’s Inn provides a range of medical and psychiatric services and is staffed by registered nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, physicians and psychiatrists.
A comprehensive physical exam is available to all clients admitted to the Inn. Appointments are also available for clients who are ill. Ambulatory detoxification services are also provided by the Medical Department.
Psychiatric evaluations are completed for clients with a psychiatric history and for those on psychotropic medications, as well as those clients whose behavior warrants an evaluation. Follow up visits are also scheduled for these clients.
Mental health assessments and psychotherapy sessions are available to all residents of the Inn. These are provided by our staff psychologist. The psychologist provides formal recommendations for psychiatric care as needed.
The Medical staff takes an active role in the education of clients. Clients receive information about health conditions, medications, and treatments. Our psychiatric nurse practitioner leads a medication management group, and the nurses are involved in didactic lectures regarding the effects of addiction on one’s health. Our staff psychologist leads a chemical dependency group for those clients who are not in our formal treatment program.
HIV education is also provided for all clients. HIV testing and referrals are available for those clients who wish to be tested, or are in need of treatment.
